The Comedy Sandpit

When it comes to making comedy online, there are different things to think about than when you're engaging a live crowd, like where and how to film, getting your audio settings right, editing your content, and cutting through those pesky algorithms to connect with an audience. As a comedy performer or technician...how do you make the best laugh-out-loud digital content that is authentic to your style and delivers what you want?

The New Zealand Comedy Trust is excited to present The Comedy Sandpit on Saturday 29th October in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland. In partnership with NZ On Air and Auckland Live, this FREE one-day digital workshop event will bring comedians, producers and technicians (e.g. livestream directors, sound producers, operators) together to build their knowledge and digital capability to support the creation of more Aotearoa online comedy.

Expressions of Interest are now open and close at 5pm on Wednesday 12 October.

Participating artists and technicians are invited to interact and play directly with experts to grow your technical skills and gain understanding of the online opportunities for your work. This will allow you to strategise ways to maintain career momentum alongside your live work, and use improved technical skills to enhance your online impact. The Comedy Sandpit is also a networking opportunity for artists and technicians, creating and strengthening collaboration and employment opportunities.

The event includes a series of panels and workshops hosted by producers, video/podcast/social media experts and established comedians, including: Tim Batt, Janaye Henry, David Correos, Tom Sainsbury, Kura Turuwhenua, Mike Minogue, Guy Montgomery and more guests to be announced.

Topics on the day will cover:
- How to produce engaging live comedy for online audiences
- Creating authentic content for social media
- A career case study on Guy Montgomery with a discussion facilitated by Mike Minogue
- Technical workshops for sound, video, social media and podcast skill building

There are limited spaces, so if you're keen to level up your skills in all things digital, chuck us your Expression of Interest!
